The Powerhouse of Sharavathi, Where Backwaters Meet the Hills.
About Linganamakki Dam
Linganamakki Dam is a major hydroelectric project built across the Sharavathi River near Jog Falls in Sagara taluk, Shivamogga district, Karnataka. Commissioned in 1964, it is the primary reservoir for the Sharavathi Hydroelectric Project, one of India’s oldest and largest hydroelectric stations.
The dam, with a length of about 2.7 km, creates vast backwaters that stretch over 100 km², dotted with small islands and forested shores. Surrounded by the Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, the backwaters offer tranquil views, boating opportunities (with permission), and serve as a gateway to nearby eco-tourism destinations.
