A Forgotten Fortress Amidst the Clouds.
About Us
Kavale Durga Fort, located near Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, is a 16th-century hill fort built during the reign of the Keladi Nayakas. Perched on a steep hill at about 1,350 meters above sea level, the fort is surrounded by dense Western Ghats forests and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Varahi River and the Malnad landscape.
The fort complex consists of seven layers of fortification, ruined palaces, granaries, guard posts, and temples dedicated to Virabhadra, Mallikarjuna, and Durga Devi. Though in ruins today, the site tells stories of valor and strategy, and is a paradise for history lovers, trekkers, and photographers.
A moderately challenging trek (about 3 km uphill) from the base village takes visitors to the fort summit. Misty weather, lush greenery, and chirping birds add to the magical experience.
