About Us
Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is one of Karnataka’s most picturesque birding destinations, located in Soraba taluk, Shivamogga district. Spread across about 73 hectares, it is centered around a large natural lake surrounded by dense forest and swamps.
Every year, between June and November, the sanctuary becomes a nesting and breeding ground for thousands of migratory and resident birds. More than 200 bird species have been recorded here, including cormorants, darters, egrets, herons, ibis, storks, and parrots.
A watchtower and viewing platforms have been set up for visitors to observe the flocks without disturbing the habitat, making Gudavi a serene retreat for birdwatchers, photographers, and nature lovers.
Best Season to Visit:
July to October (monsoon and post-monsoon for full flow). In summer, water flow is regulated and thinner.
