Where the Tunga River Flows in Tranquil Grandeur.
About Us
The Gajanur Dam, built across the Tunga River, is located about 12 km from Shivamogga city in Shivamogga district. Surrounded by thick forests, areca plantations, and paddy fields, the dam is a serene destination for nature lovers.
Constructed mainly for irrigation purposes, the dam also enhances the scenic beauty of the region. The calm backwaters attract visitors for picnics, birdwatching, and peaceful strolls along the embankment. During the monsoon season, when the reservoir is full, the view of water gushing through the dam gates is especially spectacular.
Nearby, the area is also home to the Sakrebyle Elephant Camp (8 km), making it easy to combine both visits in one trip.
Best Season to Visit:
July to October (monsoon and post-monsoon for full flow). In summer, water flow is regulated and thinner.
