About Us
The Mrugavadhe Temple, located near Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, is an ancient pilgrimage site associated with the legend of Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu. According to mythology, this was the spot where Parashurama killed Karthavirya Arjuna, the thousand-armed king, with his axe (Parashu). The word Mrugavadhe means “the place of the hunt”. The temple, dedicated to Lord Mallikarjuna (Shiva), is simple yet spiritually significant, surrounded by lush Malnad greenery. It is visited by devotees, history enthusiasts, and those interested in mythological heritage.
