Shivappa Nayaka Palace

A Living Chronicle of Malnad’s Regal Past.

About Us

The Shivappa Nayaka Palace, located in the heart of Shivamogga city, is a 16th-century heritage monument built by the Keladi Nayaka dynasty, named after King Shivappa Nayaka (1645–1660 CE).
This palace is constructed primarily of rosewood and stone, showcasing the traditional Malnad architectural style. It is surrounded by lush gardens and now functions as an archaeological museum under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The museum displays a rich collection of hero stones (Veeragallu), sculptures from the Hoysala and Chalukya periods, inscriptions, and artifacts from across Shivamogga district. The palace is an excellent destination for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and students of Karnataka’s cultural heritage.
