About Bhadra Dam
Bhadra Dam, also known as Lakkavalli Dam, is built across the Bhadra River near Lakkavalli in Tarikere taluk, Chikkamagaluru district, about 60 km from Shivamogga. Constructed in 1965, it is one of Karnataka’s major multipurpose dams, providing irrigation, power generation, and drinking water supply.
The reservoir is surrounded by lush forests and hills of the Western Ghats, making it a scenic retreat. It also forms the backwaters of the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, home to elephants, tigers, leopards, deer, and diverse birdlife.
